Guest Post: Chris T. Kat: Cat and Mouse Game

Cat and mouse game
I'm very happy to be a guest on Smoocher's Voice today! Dreamspinner Press will publish my new release, Tidal Change, on September 17th. Tidal Change is a shape-shifter story but it also has fantasy/fairy tale elements because the main character, Marty, is a merman.
Have you ever had a crush on someone, but didn't know whether the other person reciprocated your feelings? I'm guessing most of us have been in that situation before. I remember from a long, long time ago (and no, I'm not that old but it seems as if it's been an eternity ago) the simmering sexual attraction between me and a certain guy. We'd been friends forever, but there was more going on. Still, neither made the first move, and after a while it felt like a cat and mouse game. Will the cat get the mouse or not? We probably should've figured out which of us was the cat—maybe then things would've been different. For me, it was probably for the best, because I met the most wonderful man later. :)
To get back on track, um, to get back to Tidal Change: As it says in the blurb, Rick and Marty are attracted to each other, but every time Rick tries to get closer to Marty, he pulls away. They're already friends, have a lot of shared interests, and spend a lot of time together. Then there's also the sexual attraction, which Rick is sure isn't one-sided, but Marty never acts on. No matter how much Rick tries, Marty always shies away at the last second. Will they still find their HEA?
Okay, that's only a rhetorical question, but I'm sure you get my gist. Main question is—how will they get to their HEA?
How about you? Did you find your HEA already or are you looking out for it?

Blurb:
Something draws history teacher Rick Grady across the school hall to German teacher Marty Lindson. Maybe it’s their shared love of the ocean. Maybe it’s just that Marty is so hot, but maybe it’s something more—something mysterious. All Rick knows is that every time he gets close, Marty pulls away. After another cancelled date, Rick goes to Marty’s apartment to demand an explanation. And what Rick discovers blows his mind.
The ocean calls to Marty because he’s a merman. He’s been afraid to get close to Rick, not just to keep his world a secret, but because Rick is his mate. And to claim his mate would change everything about Marty. No matter how much he loves Rick, he doesn’t know if he’s ready to alter his entire life.

Excerpt from Chapter Two:
“So what is it this time? I swear you’re harder to catch than anyone else I’ve ever tried to date. We do have fun when we’re together, like yesterday. We both like bowling and prowling over the flea markets. And we both like going to the theater. Are you so hung up about our age difference?” Rick made no attempt to hide the tiredness in his voice.
They’d never talked about Marty’s resistance to starting a more intimate relationship, and so far, Rick hadn’t pressed the issue. He’d been pissed off several times, yesterday being just the latest occasion, but he’d always tried again and again. Still, for everyone there came a point at which he couldn’t hold back any longer. He’d pursued Marty for months now, and he still didn’t know whether Marty was genuinely interested.
Wearing a wide-eyed expression, Marty nudged Rick’s good leg with his foot. “No! It’s not such a big difference anyway.”
“Twelve years is not a big difference? Marty, I’m forty-six.”
“I know.” Marty smiled, then chortled. “I made sure the whole school, or at least the whole staff, knew about your age when you had your birthday last month.”
“Yeah, you did. I should have spanked you for that,” Rick rumbled, even though he had to admit to himself the surprise party had been the best birthday celebration he’d had in over a decade. Not even Miller and Thatch’s attempts at getting into Marty’s pants had dampened the fun.
“Sorry, I’m pretty vanilla, so no kink for me,” Marty quipped.
“You could show me just how vanilla you are?” Rick raised his eyebrow while he slowly pushed his hand up Marty’s thigh, closing in on his crotch. Maybe boldness would do the trick?
Marty tensed up, but he didn’t stop Rick’s approach, just peered at him with an expression Rick couldn’t interpret. Marty’s chest rose and fell fast. Rick stopped at the point when he could trace the bulge in Marty’s pants with his fingers. Marty gasped and Rick threw all caution to the wind. He hauled himself out of his chair, stepped between Marty’s dangling legs, and kissed him, all the while hoping Marty had locked the door.
Marty responded eagerly. He opened his mouth, allowing Rick’s tongue entry. Rick moaned at his first taste of Marty, a combination of bitter coffee and something sweet, something that had to be uniquely Marty because Rick had never tasted anything like it before. When he ended the kiss, Marty’s eyes were closed and his lips puffy.
He dropped another kiss on Marty’s cheek when Marty opened his eyes, looking bewildered, even stunned. Marty brought a hand up to touch his lower lip, then whispered, “You kissed me.”
Rick snorted. “I’m glad we’re on the same page.”
Marty rolled his eyes and punched Rick’s biceps none too gently. Marty’s eyes crinkled when he couldn’t keep a smile from appearing.
“So are we going out tonight?” Rick asked.
The smile slipped from Marty’s face. He shook his head. “No. Not tonight, I’m sorry.”
A bucket of cold water couldn’t have sobered Rick up quicker. He withdrew his hand from Marty’s thigh and stepped away. Marty canceled at least every second or third date they agreed on. Rick’s shoulders slumped while weariness surged through him.
Right now, he only wanted to get to his apartment and sleep for the next twenty-four hours and forget about chasing Marty. With his cane clutched in his left hand, he grasped his backpack and shouldered it on.
“Rick? We could… we could just make a new date. How about Sunday? I don’t need to grade any papers on the weekend. I’ll do all the grading during the week.”
“Doesn’t fit with my schedule. I need to finish grading my tests. I don’t care if your German students can wait.” Rick didn’t bother to hide his irritation. He faced Marty. “I’m done making an idiot of myself. If you’re seriously interested, you know where to find me.”
“But—”

Guest Post: Shifter Stories with Sue Brown.

Smoocher's Voice is proud to welcome one our favorite authors, Sue Brown to the blog. She wants to tell you about New releases.

I never read a shifter story before I started reading fanfiction. I confess I didn’t even know they existed, but once I discovered the genre, I was hooked like a little fishy at the end of a line. I read a few fanfic versions, and then a friend introduced me to J.L. Langley and Without Reservations. Since then I’ve read all the shifter stories I can get my hands on and have been introduced to many authors, such as Kim Dare, through their shifter stories. I was thrilled to meet Bailey Bradford at GRL in 2012. I seriously fangirl over her Southwestern Shifters series. I am in awe of the differing worlds our authors have created.

It’s no secret I’m also hooked on cowboys. According to one of my publishers, this is an English author phenomenon. We have a mad passion for cowboys. Well, duh. Our cowboys drive white vans and charge huge amounts of money for shoddy work. America’s cowboys have tight butts, long legs and look like Jake Gyllenhaal.
I might be fantasising just a little. Don’t ruin it.

One of my major loves of shifters is the intense passion between the couples, and with the sexiness of cowboys, I had to combine the two. Once I got past the werewolf eats the herd issue, and no, I didn’t make them vegan, they were remarkably my Sapphire Ranch wolves. I even have a plan (and that doesn’t happen very often).

The next Sapphire Ranch book, easy to write. I love
The Hidden Wolf, is out November 7, meanwhile here is the first in the series. I hope you enjoy.

Hugs and Kisses,
Sue Brown xx

Blurb:
The only good predator is a dead one, as far as Joe Lowther is concerned.

That is until the day he shoots a wolf, only to watch the animal turn into a naked Callum Pope. Cal is being hunted by a group of humans who eradicate shifter packs for sport.

Joe makes a decision to help Cal and discovers a deeper connection with the young shifter. One which he’d like to explore. If they live that long.

Buylink for Falling for Ramos

A glimpse of a group of businessmen in a newspaper tells Colin Hess his old love, Alejandro Ramos, is back in London a decade after they split up.
They met by chance as students, when Colin was pushed into Ramos’s lap at a party. Despite the disapproval from Ramos’s parents, Colin and Ramos were inseparable from that moment and settled in their own place as soon as they finished university.
But when Ramos’s father fell ill, Ramos was forced to return to the family vineyard, leaving Colin behind. When Colin joined him for a holiday, the plans Ramos’s parents had for their son became painfully clear—and those plans did not involve Colin.
Colin knows it would be stupid to rekindle their old love after the devastating end to their relationship. Still, neither can deny that they still have feelings for each other from the minute they meet, and Colin learns the meeting might not be as random as it seemed.

Sue’s bio:
Sue Brown is owned by her dog and two children. When she isn't following their orders, she can be found plotting at her laptop. In fact she hides so she can plot and has got expert at ignoring the orders.

Sue discovered M/M erotica at the time she woke up to find two men kissing on her favorite television series. The series was boring; the kissing was not. She may be late to the party, but she's made up for it since, writing fan fiction until she was brave enough to venture out into the world of original fiction.

Guest Post: Jennifer Cie on Down on the Other Street Volume One.

Smoocher's Voice is happy to welcome author, Jennifer Cie, to the blog. She is promoting her book Down on the Other Street Volume I.

Hi amazing readers, my name is Jennifer Cie, and, I am here to convince you to checkout my latest release Down On The Other Street: Volume I. I thought about writing an impassioned plea, or, promising you all a box or chocolate, but after considering shipping and handling—plus the fact if its good chocolate there’s no such thing as sharing, I thought I should just come forward with my top 3 reasons why you should Down On The Other Street:

  •                     Honesty. The characters in this collection are so honest in how they feel and react, it’s as if you’re there through every heart ache, misunderstanding, and “this is it” kiss.

  •          Sexuality. The storylines in Down On the Other Street are tied around the themes of love and sexuality, particularly those defining moments of truth we normally hold on the inside, rather than screaming from the rooftops because they’re so dangerous, yet natural at the same time. This collection is all about jumping in and exploring those moments of self-discovery.

  •                  It will touch you. I can’t guarantee it is the best book you’ll read all year ( we may be able to share some of that good chocolate I spoke of before if that is the case) , but you will definitely get something out of reading Down On The Other Street, and, I’m not talking about paper cuts or eReader headaches.

I want thank all of you for taking the time to say hello and considering reading my collection of short stories. Special thanks to Cam for inviting me over today, and hopefully convincing you to give my book a second look.

Now, I know I said I’d give you the top 3 reasons then scurry away, but just in case you needed a little more of a push, here’s a little taste of Down On The Other Street, Vol I:

FALL 1996: AMY PETERS—PENN’S LANDING

I don’t think I ever thanked you for my graduation gift. I know I sent out a card, but I could’ve done more. You weren’t on the clock or obligated in any way to come to my high school graduation, yet, you still put up with my family for six hours to congratulate me. I think that was the first time I felt ‘outside’ love. Seeing you out there cheering me on from the third row, wearing that stupid Ralph Lauren polo my mother insisted on, made me feel special—the way my bat mitzvah should have.

Honestly, I didn’t use it until I was four months into my freshman year. I had grown into my face a little better, and made a few friends my parents didn’t approve. I was having the experiences you said I would. I tasted the freedom of discovering myself for the first time. Stale beer and pretzels, that’s what it tasted like in Philadelphia.

It happened after the election, figures the one no one showed up to would be my first. I had gone down to Penn’s landing with Amy Peters. We were in the same physics class, but I hadn’t noticed her until the voter rally the week before. Something about her made me instantly uneasy. Looking at the red with streaks of brown hair billowing down her shoulders, washing out the freckles adorning her pale face made me feel fourteen again.

She wanted to walk me through the heritage trolley line. All of it, wires and poles, was gone by the time I had moved to Philadelphia. I should have been more excited. I should have embraced everything about that walk, instead of shaking in my pea coat from nerves and practically biting through my lip to keep from saying something stupid.

Around midnight we started heading back to campus. She had invited me over to her house for a night cap. It could have been an invitation to be mauled by bears and I would have said yes. I just wanted to be near her. So, there I was.

On corner of Spruce Street, after dropping her keys in a fit of laughter when I told her that Clueless was the last good movie I’d seen, Amy Peters kissed me. It was not smooth or artificially flavored. Her lips were chapped from the blistering winds, and the touch of her finger tips across my face made everything, even the hair in my ears, stand in attention.

Head plastered against her living room wall, I unhooked her bra as she draped her lips across my collarbone and unbuttoned my pants. I was glad I wasn’t drunk. There was such a surreal kind of happiness pouring over me when I felt her still chilled hands trace my panty line, then, plunge into me with more grace than her tongue had in my mouth. The bite mark she left on my neck before whispering, “Can I have you,” in my ear made me flush and harden all over.

My knees buckled when she bit my lip, tonguing down the cracked skin as her fingers wrestled more warmth to drip between my thighs. Her eyes had grown wide, she knew before I could tell myself…. [End Excerpt From Intellectuals Are Fools]

Blurb:

Long winded, unemployed, and timid, on the first date Brendan Bloom is already in love. Comfortably arched over his body, Ryan contemplates murder. Cold, necklace gleaming against the pale tint of her collarbone, the passenger could have mercy. Not a little black book, but a faded love letter out from under the sheets. Some romances ignite on sight, others flare at the base of waterless tubs soaked in agitation. Rooted in the South, this collection of short stories delivers five electric confessions of love, sexuality, and identity across time.

Guest Post: BA Tortuga and the Midnight Rodeo: Homecoming Tour

We’d like to welcome BA Tortuga to Smoocher’s Voice! She was kind enough to answer a couple questions for us. Not an interview exactly just a couple of questions. Maybe ones y’all wanted the answer to.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, you are a prolific writer. What inspires you to write?

I am a born eavesdropper and I talk to EVERYONE. I could visit with trees and I honestly love to hear folks’ stories. I am constantly telling people, “that’s totally going in a book”. I have a huge, fascinating, psychotic family of amazing characters. There’s no lack of inspiration. ;-)

Do you have a favorite series or character?

A favorite series? Probably the Road Trip series with MJ and Sonny. Those were four books that make me laugh, make me cry and pushed me, because I had to plot. Like things had to make sense! My favorite character of all time has to be Coke from the Roughstock universe. Coke is so real he hurts and he’s always right there, begging for more page time.

Is writing across multiple genres challenging?

I don’t have an issue writing different genres. After all, I have the attention span of a caffeinated gnat on crack. I write (and read) all the things. I love characters and I love stories. I want to do ALL THE THINGS.

;-)

ALL THE THINGS!

Much love, y’all.

Kiernan Kelly lives in the wilds of the alligator-infested U.S. Southeast, slathered in SPF 45, drinking colorful tropical, hi-octane concoctions served by thong-clad cabana boys.

Sigh.

To date, Kiernan has over a dozen novels in print and ebook, and a plethora of short stories in both formats.

Excerpt:

Denver was-- wow.
Denton had been stunning, making Blaine stare a lot. A lot. Still, Dent had been off-limits, and he’d bet Denver was, too. No one could be that hot and be like Blaine.
He was the weird one, the one brought into the pack by a she-wolf who had already had a single pup. Blaine figured he was lucky no one had killed him when he was a kid.
Everyone else was broad and wide, shaggy headed with eyes like green glass. All of them came from the same line. Denver was the spitting image of Denton, really. A little harder around the edges, a little more wild. A shit ton more bruised.
The guys had been taking turns. Two a night, just like clockwork, they’d come and challenge Denver. One at midnight, one at three a.m. Greg and Vince went, then Carter and Caul, and finally Hank and Mike. Boom.
He supposed Denver was waiting for him, now. Blaine sighed. He had no intention of trying to take the pack. God, the very idea made his head hurt.
The real question was, were they going to just start over, or was Denver going to get a night off, a chance to sleep before they settled in town for tonight’s show?
