Fact #5 - EMT Jared
Li and his best friend Neil, crashed their high school prom in evening gowns.
Exclusive Excerpt:
The taxi pulled up to the address of the apartment that Dan had scribbled
down earlier. He took a deep breath, a bit uncertain as to what he’d signed up
for. There was already a Plan B in place, in case the whole dance club thing
became too awkward or uncomfortable. He could always pretend he’d gotten a text
telling him he had to come in early to work the next day. It seemed that,
despite his own internal admonishment from the night before to relax and enjoy
himself in life, he was anything but
relaxed. And he literally shook from the realization that he was mere seconds
from being with Jared again.
I need to
get a grip.
He winced at his own choice of words then snapped out of it when the cabbie
loudly cleared his throat.
“That’ll be eighteen even.”
He should’ve said he’d be the designated driver—the way he was burning
through cash, he was going to have to go on the Top Ramen diet. At least he’d
have his meals taken care of on his upcoming weekend at training. And facing
the evening with his nerves sans alcohol? Not a good combo.
I can jump
out of a fucking plane with less fear.
After he’d paid the driver, he strolled up to the security gate, willing
himself to calm the fuck down. He was buzzed in following a quick, cheery
welcome from Jared. Hearing his voice had Dan on the edge of a public hard-on,
which did nothing to help him feel better about the situation. He yanked off
his black bomber jacket and draped it over his arm in front of him.
Better.
“Danny, you’re here!”
The door had flung open and Dan sucked in a shocked breath. Jared stood
there wearing a towel and nothing else. That is, except for the smoky black
kohl makeup around his eyes, the lids covered in a light sprinkle of glitter,
his lips glossed with a hint of a shimmering rose tint.
Thank
Christ for the jacket.
Jared stepped aside and gestured for Dan to come in. He was unsure what the
protocol for them might be in terms of expressing affection. He didn’t want to
appear cold, but he didn’t want to come across as grabby either. Jared solved
his dilemma by throwing an arm around his neck then yanking him close for a
messy smack on his cheek. Chuckling and somewhat embarrassed, Dan returned the
hug with the arm not clutching at his coat like a lifeline.
Letting go, Jared touched two fingers to his lips, seemingly to examine the
damage to his gloss. “Shit. Good thing there’s plenty more where that came
from.”
“Oh, sorry.”
Jared regarded him. “Don’t be silly.” He scrunched his eyebrows together.
“Oh dear, I could be wrong, but I don’t think you were planning on sparkling
tonight.”
Jared rubbed a thumb across his cheek.
I’m going
to die, it’s that simple.
